The People Behind the Mission

Getting dogs off the streets in Mexico … four paws at a time.

Toree traveled to Cancun in March of 2022 with no real plan but with an intention to help the dogs there. Thanks to Facebook and other means, she was able to find a slew of people already working for the street dogs.

Karin has been helping street dogs in Cancun for 12 years. She sponsors spay and neuter campaigns, driving the streets and rounding up pregnant dogs which she then cares for at her home. Then she works to find homes for the mamas and puppies.

Dayli has had a love of animals her whole life. She plucks dogs off the street, and either fosters them herself or finds others to foster them while they receive basic medical care.

Carlos has a heart of gold and frequently takes dogs from the street to his home. He also helps with the feeding of street dogs where they tend to congregate on corners near food trucks.

Pepe has been capturing street dogs from his general neighborhood, spaying and neutering them at his expense. He then releases them back where he found them. Of course, many of them he has adopted–he currently has 11 dogs! He also aids in the feeding of the homeless dogs as often as he can.

Maria’s focus is on providing spay and neuter options for those who can’t afford it, as well as pairing fostered dogs with people to adopt them.

Ana currently has five rescued street dogs at her home. She recently rescued an abandoned dog and her puppy who had been left in a filthy home with no access to food or water. She fostered these dogs, bringing them back to health, until people were found to adopt them.

Mike had recently purchased a home at Lake Tahoe while living in LA. He saw the post on NextDoor asking for help in LA when the pups landed. He came by and helped Toree retrieve the dogs, walk them and load them into the rented vehicle. We could not have done it without him!
